From Insurance to the Alps

My Journey to Becoming a Coach

Lady at the top of the summit

There I was, fresh out of university, armed with a shiny degree and big dreams. Naturally, I did what any ambitious graduate would do: I jumped headfirst into… selling insurance. Yes, you read that right. Insurance. Now, don’t get me wrong, insurance plays a crucial role, but let’s be honest, it’s not the most exciting topic around.

From Insurance to Dream Cars

After a couple of years of cold calling and policy structuring, I realised something was missing. Namely, the thrill. The excitement. The kind of thing that makes you jump out of bed in the morning (as opposed to hitting snooze 10 times). So, I took a bold step and landed a job selling my favourite cars. Now this was no easy feat given I had zero experience in the motor trade and was coming in at ‘prestige’ level. But when I set my heart on something, that-is-it! I persistently contacted (some would say stalked!) the sales manager until he gave me a chance. And that was that, I was in: me, surrounded by gleaming, gorgeous vehicles, talking horsepower and torque with people who were as obsessed as I was. Finally, life had a bit of vroom!

Family Business: Because Why Not?

But life isn’t all smooth roads and fast cars. Eventually, I got involved in the family manufacturing business. Now, if you’ve ever worked with family, you know it’s a mix of love, loyalty, and a whole lot of chaos. Added to that it was an engineering business, a topic I knew relatively little about. It was an adventure, for sure, and after a few years, I was given the opportunity to start something new. I learned a lot, not only about the awesomeness of manufacturing but mostly how we need to have more girl-power in that sector!

My Own Business: Cue the Dramatic Music

So, what did I do? I started my own business! Well, my brother and I did. Blending our experience in manufacturing with our shared passion for fast cars - actually even faster (Formula 1). Finally, a taste of entrepreneurship with equal parts freedom and fear, with a hint of "what have I gotten myself into?" I’m not going to lie, it was tough. Every new business has its challenges but these challenges just kept on coming and eventually, after 5 years, the business closed down, leaving me at a crossroads.

To the French Alps: Escape or Adventure?

With the UK feeling a bit too familiar (and also a bit too rainy), I decided to trade it all in for the French Alps. I got myself a job as Resort Manager for a luxury chalet company. The hours were long but the reward superseded, the opportunity to get on the mountain each day to ski was something else. But I did have to wonder, was this an escape or the start of something new? Spoiler alert: it was both.

Enter the Italian Ski Instructor

And then, because life loves a good cliché, I met and fell in love with an Italian ski instructor. Yes, pass me the sick bag, I hear you say. But it was the kind of love story that makes you believe in fate, or at least in the power of a well-timed ski lesson. Life was looking up! I had the mountains, the romance, the adventure. What could possibly go wrong?

Brexit, Covid, and the Chaos That Followed

Ah, Brexit and Covid - the dynamic duo that turned our idyllic Alpine life upside down. Suddenly, everything was in flux. Travel restrictions, lockdowns, uncertainty, and to top it off losing my Dad. It all went to shit, literally. But in the midst of the chaos, there was one shining light: the birth of our beautiful little girl. She became our anchor, our joy, and the reason to keep going, even when everything else was falling apart.

The Path to Coaching

As life started to settle into a new kind of normal, I found myself reflecting on everything I’d been through. The highs, the lows, the twists and turns - it all started to make sense. I began rebuilding my confidence, bit by bit, and realised that I had something valuable to share. If I could navigate all of that and come out stronger on the other side, maybe I could help others do the same.

And that’s how I found my true calling as a Mindset Coach. It wasn’t a straight path - far from it - but it was my path. Every job, every business, every unexpected turn in the road led me here. Now, I’m on a mission to help others navigate their own journeys, with all the humour, heart, and resilience I’ve gathered along the way.

So, if you’re feeling a bit lost, a bit unsure, or just in need of a good laugh at life’s unpredictability, I’m here to help. Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that sometimes the best way forward is to embrace the chaos, find the humour in the madness, and keep on moving - one snowy step at a time!
