Trust Your Nose: How Essential Oils Brought Me Back to Rest

For years, I’ve used essential oils. Quietly. Consistently. Mostly for Alida because, to be honest, her bedtime routine has had a better essential oil line-up than mine for years.

I became a dōTERRA advocate during the pandemic, studying the science and safety behind oils while many were baking banana bread or perfecting TikTok dances. (Ok, I was baking banana bread as well!) I took it seriously. I still do. But somewhere along the way, I stopped creating blends for myself. I was so focused on oils for bumps, sniffles and toddler tantrums that I forgot they could be just as potent for grown-up needs. Like, say… perimenopausal hot flashes that could fry an egg.

The Wake-Up Call

It started with sleep. Or rather, the lack of it. The night sweats. The tossing and turning. The body that used to glide into deep rest (maybe not quite so deep!) now playing host to a personal sauna every few hours. A friend recommended sage tablets. But before I ordered another supplement, I remembered something I’d used once, years ago - clary sage. My old birth blend.

I dusted off my books, did a bit of research, and landed on a combination that felt right: clary sage, bergamot, and peppermint.

Into the diffuser it went.

And reader… I slept like a baby. Not just one night, but consistently. No tablets, no midnight pacing, no questioning my life choices at 2am. Just deep, peaceful, delicious sleep.

Why I’m Talking About Oils Again

This moment reminded me - oils are powerful. Not just for physical stuff, but for emotional and mental support, too. They’ve helped me reset, calm down, focus, sleep, and feel like myself again.

And as someone who helps women reconnect with their own confidence and clarity, it feels like a no-brainer to start sharing this part of my world again. Because essential oils aren’t just pretty scents in glass bottles. They’re tools. Anchors. Gentle nudges toward balance when things feel a bit wobbly.

So no, I didn’t disregard my oils. I never stopped using them. But I’d stopped thinking of them as mine. And now? I’m back to blending. For me. For you. For anyone who’s ever googled “natural remedies for hot flashes” in a sweaty panic at 3am.
