The Quiet Skill No One Talks About: Having Faith in the Process

There’s a moment that comes up often in my coaching sessions. It’s when a client pauses and says something along the lines of:

“I’m doing the work… but I’m not sure it’s working.”

And I get it, I really do.

Because we live in a world where results are expected quickly.

We’re used to seeing progress.

Tracking it.

Measuring it.

So when it comes to something less visible - like confidence, mindset, or emotional change - it can feel unsettling when there’s no immediate proof that anything is happening.

But the part no one really talks about is that real change is often happening long before you can see it.

The uncomfortable middle

When you start shifting habits, thoughts, or behaviours, there’s a phase that feels… uncertain.

You’re no longer where you were, but you’re not yet where you want to be.

And this is where most people wobble.

Not because they’re doing anything wrong - but because they’re looking for evidence too soon.

I’ve been there myself.

Wanting to feel different instantly.

Wanting the new mindset to just click.

Wanting the reassurance that it’s all working.

But change doesn’t work like that.

It’s quieter.

More subtle.

And often, a little bit inconvenient.

Why we struggle with this

Your brain is wired to look for certainty.

It wants proof.

It wants reassurance.

It wants to know that the effort you’re putting in is worth it.

So when that proof isn’t obvious, it starts asking questions:

Is this working?

Am I doing it right?

Why don’t I feel different yet?

And if you’re not careful, those questions can pull you back into old patterns - simply because they feel more familiar.

What’s actually happening beneath the surface

Every time you choose a different thought, pause instead of react, or respond with a little more awareness than before… something is shifting.

Even if it doesn’t feel dramatic. Even if it doesn’t feel like enough.

You are building trust with yourself.

And that doesn’t happen in one big moment.

It happens in small, repeated decisions that often go unnoticed.

The role of faith

This is where faith comes in.

Not blind optimism.

Not pretending everything is perfect.

But a quieter, steadier belief:

That what you’re doing is working - even if the results haven’t caught up yet.

Faith allows you to stay with the process long enough for change to actually take hold.

Without it, most people stop just before things start to shift.

A small reframe

Instead of asking: “Is this working yet?”

Try asking: “Am I showing up differently to how I used to?”

Because that’s where the real evidence is.

In the small moments.

The subtle shifts.

The quieter reactions.

That’s where change begins.

Final thought

You don’t need to have it all figured out.

You don’t need instant proof.

But you do need to give yourself - and the process - enough time to work.

Because the version of you you’re building?

She doesn’t arrive overnight.

She’s created in the moments where you choose to keep going, even when it still feels uncertain.
