Things Aren’t Happening to You - They’re Happening for You

Aside from Jennifer Aniston’s new man being quite easy on the eye, my latest obsession is Jim Curtis - not (only!) for his looks, but for the kind of valuable content that makes you stop scrolling and actually think.

One quote he posted really landed this week:

“Things aren’t happening to you, they’re happening for you.”

Sounds simple enough, right? Until life gives you a perfect opportunity to test it.

When the Universe Delivers a Lesson (via Email Silence)

This week, I was let down by a supplier - mid-project, mid-commitment, and mid-conversation. One minute we were collaborating; the next, complete radio silence.

After a few choice words (and maybe a brief meltdown or three), I took a breath and tried to look at it differently.

What if this wasn’t happening to me? What if it was happening for me?

And as much as I didn’t want to admit it at the time, it was.

Because that ghosting gave me space - space to reassess what I really needed, to find someone better aligned, and to tighten my own boundaries for future collaborations.

Reframing in Real Time

It’s funny how the mind jumps straight to Why did this happen? when what we should really be asking is What’s this showing me?

That one question changes everything.

Instead of spiralling into frustration or self-blame, you start to see patterns. You recognise red flags earlier. You learn faster.

And slowly, you realise life isn’t conspiring against you, it’s rerouting you.

The New Way

I’m getting quicker at this now (progress, not perfection!). The gaps between the meltdown and the meaning are shrinking.

Because when something falls apart, it’s rarely the end, it’s a pivot. We just changed course.

And chances are, we’re now on a track that’s far more aligned than the one before.

So, next time something doesn’t go to plan, try asking: “What if this is happening for me?”

You might be surprised where that question leads.

Closing Reflection

Clarity doesn’t always come with calm music and soft lighting. Sometimes it arrives through frustration, disappointment, and a bit of chaos. But when you pause long enough to reframe, you realise… this isn’t punishment. It’s preparation.

You’ve built a lifetime of skills and resilience. Now it’s your time to use them.
